The Bakehouse Studio Christmas Party

Last week, The Bakehouse Studio had their Christmas party, where all the regular ceramicists got to show off and sell their seriously wonderful, tactile wares.

Nora's art

I'd been sorting washing, when my distracted mind had an idea that I had to put into my sketchbook straight away. Nora watched as I sat on my bed and drew, then asked for a turn herself. Needless to say her illustrations are far superior to mine.

One of the best things about Summer is the food. The stone fruits and juicy mangoes, ripe berries and refreshing watermelons. Zucchinis! The abundance of green things. Abundance of fresh food in general makes me pretty happy.

To inspire myself to make more salads, I'm keeping a record here of recently created and enjoyed salads over this summer. Here are the first two.

white cabbage // radish (straight from the backyard, 'cause radishes are officially the easiest thing to grow) // mixed greens // cucumber // orange // coriander // garlic chives // topped with a homemade coleslaw style dressing

a bed of kale and beetroot leaves wilted with a little garlic // beetroot // goats cheese // walnuts // parsley // an unnecessary dijon mustard based dressing (next time I'll leave that off, because it was creamy enough with the goats cheese mixed through)

Ceramic Beads

Really rustic and simple, but so satisfying to make. Now I just gotta find some cord to string them on.

Printing at The Rizzeria

Last week, I was introduced to The Rizzeria, a not-for-profit co-op, which enables anyone to self-publish/print their own works. Our print session was guided by Miss Helen, an artist, designer, riso printing expert and volunteer. What a revelation! My head is brimming with ideas, and I can't wait to visit again.

Bettina, another Helen and I spent a lovely two hours marvelling over their beautiful space in Surry Hills, filled with an eclectic collection of inspiring posters, zines, tea towels and art. Oh, and we printed our collaborative 'Slow and Sparkly' colouring book. Now we just have to meet up, trim, collate and organise wire binding - before distributing the books to members of our online sketch group. After which, I look forward to spending a lazy evening colouring in.
