The backyard.

It's getting there. Slowly. We now have a garage and a wonderful blank slate beside it to be filled. In the meantime, our verandah space still holds snippets of pretty goodness and some other pots take refuge under the New Zealand Christmas Bush / Pohutukawa we inherited.

Nora's Art

I'm completely enamored with Nora's latest artworks. There is something magical about this age – before the become aware of drawing figuratively or self-conscious of their work, and rather just make marks on the paper (or walls or furniture or bodies*), because they can.

*Evidence can be found here and here.

A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2014

The only photos I took this week were some rushed images as we got ready to head to a quinceaƱera.

Iris – just having a chat. A rare capture on her back (complete with my bare toes) – she normally rolls onto her tummy the minute I put her on the ground, and somehow manages to creep her way to the nearest discarded object.
Nora – she has a shoebox full of ribbons, clips and headbands, but her adornment of choice, always a pair of undies.
Oscar – his serious face is at complete odds with his excitement. Its Friday night, 7pm (his usual bedtime), he's in the rain, in his favourite sparkly shoes, holding his favourite (and only) umbrella, about to see his Abuela and dance the evening away.

Hello skinny newborn legs! So lovely to meet Elsa Wren.

A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2014

Iris – exploring the grass with dimpled fingers.
Nora – hot and naked, her only adornment an amber necklace and a frozen berry smoothie moustache. This week she has learnt the power of 'no', secretly, I think its little adorable every time she says it, even if she is being difficult and cheeky.
Oscar – contemplating the ceiling in exxopolis.

When I started this project I told myself that I would always post the photos on time, and that I wouldn't let it take over the entire blog. Here I am, third week in, and already both vows are broken!

This photo of Stella. Stunning.

A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2014

Iris – she wakes up smiling.
Nora – her cheeks are still amazing.
Oscar – a rare daytime nap.

From last week, I enjoyed seeing – Zander's concentration and little Ronan's massive smile. I'm also happy that my sister will be joining in with my beautiful niece, Ottilie.

Christmas

I didn't take many photos over Christmas – and none on the eve or day itself. Here are a couple things I did capture from our little Summer break.

1. Our Christmas tree. It needed these, but I never got around to printing any out.
2. One needs a green sparkly beard to make wrapping paper.
3. Favourite bromeliad at my parents' place.
4. I finally made my children stockings this year. I was so, so excited!
5. Shelly Beach. The three figures walking up the beach are Rodge, Osc and Rodge's sister Marcia, who is visiting from London.

1/52

We've all been a little sick, so I'm keeping introductions simple. My beautiful three.

Iris, 4 months – her full head of newborn hair has thinned out to a wispy, downy deep golden halo.

Nora, not quite 2 – don't let that innocent face trick you, she's as feisty and cheeky as her big bro.

Oscar, 3 – This is his attempt at a smile. Oscar never stands still and would much rather be behind the camera than in front of it. I have a feeling that capturing a good photo of him every week will be challenging.

Excited to be joining in with Jodi for the very first time.
