My sister held a watercolour/gouache day on Sunday. It was such a lovely idea, to just hang with family and paint. Relaxing. We had the most beautiful selection of flowers and vases as subject matter. The stunning Autumn leaves in the blue vase are Crab Apple, which were a gift for Tess from Marrickville markets. The day also gave me the opportunity to use my brand new moleskine pocket watercolour notebook – a birthday present which I'm looking forward to filling. You can see my unfinished little sketch in the second last photo. The last photo shows Aym's work in progress.

Little Nora, already a month old watched proceedings from a corner. In the picture she is nestled under a lovely new crochet blanket made for her by her bisabuela (great grandma) and namesake, Nora. The pretty patchwork underneath was made for my sister by my mum.

The rest of my weekend was filled with looking after my two little crazies and snatches of gardening.

I hope everyone else had a weekend as lovely as mine.

How beautiful are the two light fittings above? (Photographed on the smokey ashey floor of our yet to be cleaned house). And how fortunate am I to have a friend that was giving them away – just as I was realising that I had a house in which every room needed a new light fitting. I have also realised that I don't particularly like new light fittings, for me to like a light it has to be at least 20 years old! So I am very lucky to have received the two beauties above.

The pink chandelier will go in Nora's room and the green light will be best in the study nook.

I'm considering getting another chandelier the same as Nora's (there is one more available) for our bedroom ... just really not to sure if it is a little frilly for me. If I was to put it in our bedroom I'd source different coloured crystal drops, maybe a smokey quartz colour, for a more sophisticated look. I'm also considering this cheap option from Ikea but I'm worried I might get sick of it really quickly. Hmmm ...

A walk

The sun came out on Saturday. Perfect for a walk to Eveleigh Markets with babies and sisters. Hope everyone had a lovely weekend too.

At the moment I am obsessed with pink. I don't know why, I was never a girly, girly girl. My mum, despite having 3 daughters and no sons never dressed us exclusively in pink. I remember lots of navy and red and purple and orange and green from my childhood wardrobe, but honestly not much pink. Nor did I ever have a pink bedroom. Our walls were a cheery yellow.

Yet now, when choosing colours for my house, I am drawn to pink. I want a strong pink front door and  warm pale pink hallway.

We recently visited a discount tile place to choose new tiles for our bathroom. I honestly thought I'd choose a deep and practical grey, but found I didn't like the texture of any in stock. Luckily I stumbled across some small, heavily discounted, pale pink square tiles in the back room. Decision made, our bathroom would have a blush pink floor.

At top are some pretty pink images from pinterest which are fueling the obsession, I've put the links to their original sources below.

Grey weather = bulb shopping!

It is wet in Sydney. Very wet. I took the above photos on our balcony, just to show you how wet it is.

Today is my Oscar free day, he is spending time with his very loved Abuela. I had planned on going to the nursery and choosing some bulbs for our new garden. I know I don't live there yet, but the thought of spring flowers would make the place so much more cheery. But going out in all that rain with my sleepy 3 week old little Nora just didn't seem right. So I've ordered some online. By the time they get here hopefully the weather will have cleared and I'll have made a space for them in the front yard.

I've bought pink and red anemones and pink bluebells. So excited as they'll be so beautiful. I hope they grow, I always admire gardens, but haven't really had much experience myself. Wish me luck!

This is what not to do to the beautiful jarrah kitchen in your new house – leave the vacuum cleaner plugged in. Apparently they can malfunction, overheat and burn the place down. And yes, that paint colour under the soot was a fresh coat of hog bristle quarter strength! Luckily no-one was hurt, as we hadn't actually moved in yet. And now it may be a little while longer until we move in ... in the meantime I shall continue the hunt for inspiring interior decorating bits and pieces.

Intense colour

When you've got a new house to decorate, it is a lot of fun making inspiration boards on Pinterest. One thing I've realised, is I am completely drawn to images of interiors with intense, strong coloured walls, yet I don't think I have the guts to do it in my own home.

I have already decided that the main living area will be plain old (but pleasant) Hog Bristle Quarter Strength (which is in Australia's top three favourite colours!) I've selected some of my favourite pinned bright rooms to share with you here anyways.

Here are where they were originally pinned from –

Nora Lily

Here she is. My gorgeous daughter Nora Lilian Celeste at 9 days old. The lovely knitted blanket in the first photo was made by my talented Aunty Fiona for Oscar. The other two photos show her beautiful crib quilt, made with love by her grandma. She certainly is one lucky girl!

ps my sis posted a lovely photo of her here.

I've had a very busy couple of weeks ... very busy. My beautiful daughter Nora was born last Wednesday. She's a super relaxed, floppy, calm, sleepy baby – the opposite to Oscar. She is also very beautiful. I'll upload a picture in the next couple of days.

And then two days after Nora was born, and after many months of agonising searching we finally bought a house. (Lots of emailing while breastfeeding). It needs a lot of TLC, so be warned that this blog may begin to talk about renovations. And gardening.

But for now, it is the Easter long weekend. Time to relax, see family and eat lots of chocolate. Do you love the eggs above? They were created 15 odd years ago by me and my sisters, with food dye and crayons.
